How do I change my Ford vehicle’s automatic software update settings?

You can change your vehicle’s automatic software update settings on the touchscreen or in the Ford app*.

Notes: 

  • Your vehicle will arrive with automatic updates enabled. We recommend keeping automatic updates turned on for the best ownership experience.

Adjusting the Automatic Software Update Settings In-Vehicle

Select Ford Digital Experience** or your SYNC®† generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to adjust your software update settings. If you need assistance determining the type of system in your vehicle, refer to the Visual Reference Guide. 

Note: If your SYNC generation is not in the drop-down options below, it does not receive automatic software updates. Refer to the How do I install SYNC updates? article for SYNC update instructions.

Ford Digital Experience

  1. Select the App Drawer icon on your vehicle's Digital Experience screen.
  2. Choose Software Updates.
  3. Pick the Settings icon.
  4. Toggle the Automatic updates slider to your preference.

Note: If Automatic Updates are off, you will not receive software updates automatically. You will be prompted to accept the updates.

SYNC 4A

  1. Select the Settings or Home icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Choose Software Updates.
  3. Toggle the Automatic Updates slider to your preference.

Note: If Automatic Updates are off, but your Notifications are on, you will not receive software updates automatically. You will be prompted to accept the updates.

  1. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Choose Software Updates.
  3. Toggle the Automatic Updates slider to your preference.

  1. Log in to the Ford app.
  2. Select Vehicle.
  3. Choose Schedule.
  4. Pick Software Updates.
  5. Toggle the Automatic Updates slider to your preference.
